Life Quote: “Real life is only possible in this world if we know and believe in a real presence, the real, bodily presence of Christ, sent by the Father into our world to reach out His hand—the hand of God—to heal those who are broken by sin—to hold a little child and bless it—to stretch it out on a cross to receive a nail for our redemption.” Rev. Dr. Arthur A. Just, Jr., Professor of Exegetical Theology, Dean of the Chapel, and Director of Deaconess Studies at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship in Romans 11:33-12:8: St. Paul ended today’s Epistle reading by encouraging us to use our gifts (serving, teaching, encouraging, contributing, leadership and mercy) in a very deliberate and intentional way. We show that our faith is alive by our sacrificial deeds of kindness to the glory of God and the welfare of our fellow human beings.

Life Quote for Today: “Jesus’ compassionate touch and protective hands are for all people, regardless of size and importance in this world. In fact, He is especially compassionate and protective of those who are on the bottom of the social ladder—children, lepers, tax collectors, prostitutes, and sinners. He welcomes the helpless, the hurting, those most likely to be trampled, and those who can bring Him nothing in return. No one is too small or insignificant to be blessed by Jesus’ hands.” Rev. Dr. Glenn A. Nielsen, Professor, Director of Vicarage, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship: Romans 11:1-2, 13-15, 28-32: Because of God’s mercy we, like St. Paul, are made new as God’s children. As God’s children we are redeemed to be his disciples, his stewards, who do the right things for the right reasons, whether it is in giving, encouraging and helping. These are marks of God’s stewards.

Quote for Life: “Christ chose death over life, and then, in reversing the curse, brought life and immortality to life through His resurrection. Christ’s mercy extends from His suffering cross into our suffering homes and hospitals, where He gives life because He chose death for us.” Rev. Dr.

Stewardship in Romans 10:5-17: In Romans 10 Paul strongly makes the point that we can never gain salvation by our good works. Our salvation is a gift from God who loved us so much that He gave His only-begotten Son for our salvation. Therefore, the good works of stewardship that we do are done not to be saved, but as our fitting response to being saved by God’s grace.

Life Quote: “This Church, under the Gospel and for the sake of the Gospel, has the duty to spare, to the best of its abilities, the lives of all people . . . To the extent, then, that the Church wittingly falls prey to policies that support the “black genocide [abortion],” we act contrary to nature of the communion into which we have been drawn and we bar—albeit unwittingly—from the means of grace those whom God would save. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon us, poor sinners!” Rev. Everette E. Greene, pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship in Romans 9:1-13: St. Paul was saddened by the unbelief of the Jews who had every advantage as the chosen people of God. It is very difficult to see people we know and love who do not believe in Christ. That encourages us to use our time and money to support the mission of our church to reach the spiritually lost in our families, our communities and throughout the world.

God’s Word about Our Stewardship: Romans 8:28-39: St. Paul concludes this beautiful chapter of Romans with the overwhelming confidence that God loves us and is on our side. He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, will also along with Him graciously give us all good things. With joy, then, we can use the blessings of life, time, money and skills in new and God-pleasing ways.

Thank You Pastor Uecker! Pastor Uecker from Our Savior, Madison, leads us in worship this morning.

Stewardship in Romans 7:14-25: St. Paul describes the conflict we Christians face each day of our lives. What we want to do we do not do, and what we hate we do. This sinful reality makes our lives as stewards more challenging but, thanks to Jesus, we have the victory over sin and the power of the Holy Spirit to help us do that which is pleasing to God and good for others as well as ourselves.

Life Quote: “The world sees those not yet born as ‘products of conception’ or a source of stem cells. We see children who need to be cherished, defended, and protected.” A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Bearing fruit is at the heart and core of Christian stewardship. How we use our God-given time, skills and money is a mark of our stewardship.

Stewardship in Romans 6:12-23: In our Epistle reading for today St. Paul states that because of Christ we have changed masters. Without Christ we are slaves to sin, but with Christ we are freed from that bondage to be willing servants of righteousness. As Christians we practice good stewardship not as a burden but rather as a privilege. That makes stewardship a joyful lifestyle.

Life Quote: “There is no sin too shameful, so much, that Jesus hasn’t paid for it. Nothing unfinished with Jesus. No half-way forgiveness with Him either.” Rev. Stewardship in Romans 5:6-15: Jesus died that we might live, and no longer live only for ourselves but rather for Him who died for us and rose again, so that we might experience the joy and excitement of doing good things for God and for others—not because we have to, but because we get to. Christian stewards enjoy doing the right things for the right reasons!

Life Quote: “God gave an ordinary man, Joseph, the unparalleled responsibility to care for and nurture Jesus. The carpenter from Nazareth did the best he could with the gifts God had given him. That's the responsibility God gives to fathers today. ‘Do the best you can with what I have given you to care for and nurture your children. Bring them to My house. Read them My Word. I will be at work in their lives and yours.’” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship: 1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11: St. Peter points out that regardless of how we might be mocked or ridiculed for managing all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes, we will be blessed in this life and especially blessed in the life to come. What joy we have in knowing that what we do as Christian stewards really does have eternal consequences

Grazie!  The spaghetti lunch held on April 27 was successful thanks to many of you who lent a hand to make it successful.  Our proceeds totaled $1052.00 plus many donations for food items needed to prepare the meal. (Our additional grocery and bakery costs of $171.30 were donated by the Callies Farms Families) so that full amount was deposited to the Harvest Festival Account.  These funds may be used for church maintenance, repair and upkeep projects in the future.  Care and Congregation program funds under Thrivent may also be applied pending approval.  We had a great work crew from the set up to tear down, advertising and decorating, preparing and serving, organizing and cashiering.  The salads and desserts were wonderful and very much appreciated.  Again, Grazie to each of you who helped and participated with this event!

Confirmation Questioning: This Wednesday at 7:30pm Evan and Lindsy will confess the faith they have been taught. Please come and let them do as Jesus says, So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, (Matthew 10:32 ESV)

The good news is that as more post-abortion healing and helping takes place, there will be more mothers and fathers to stand beside us and spread the word that abortion kills children and hurts their parents." Stewardship Today: 1 Peter 2:19-25: Jesus was God’s Chief Steward in doing perfectly the will of His Father. But as He did so, He endured extreme suffering. We will never have to endure the same suffering that Jesus experienced but sometimes we may be considered foolish for using a generous portion of our time, talents and money for the Lord’s work. In the eyes of unbelievers that is a waste of resources, but in the eyes of us Christians that is good stewardship!

Thank You: Our sincere thanks to all who helped with the blood drive in Howard on March 11. Your support of community blood drives in Howard is greatly appreciated. We collected 49 pints of blood, with 2 new donors. 13 donors chose to give automation donation which means 26 pints of red cells. It was a great blood drive and we look forward to working with you in November at your next drive. Thanks Nancy Pretre.
Please allow the children to leave before the rest of the congregation so they can go to Sunday School with a minimum of disruption.

Stewardship: 1 Peter 1:3-9: Peter lived with confidence because he was an eyewitness to the risen Lord and the rest of his life was spent in praising God in words and actions. We are not eyewitnesses to the risen Savior but by God’s grace we believe the message of God’s eyewitnesses and also spend our lives praising God with our words and actions. Spending our lives and resources like that is great Christian stewardship.

Life Quote: "The cross proclaims to us that suffering is not a sign of God’s absence or disfavor toward us. Jesus Christ did not turn His back on suffering nor did He walk away from those suffering. He suffered for us on the cross and He suffers with us in all that life brings. He does not abandon us to suffer alone." Rev. Dr. Eugene Boe, Academic Dean, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Lutheran Brethren Seminary. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

CAMP MINNEBOJI – June 22-28, 2008! “Don’t Forget His Lyrics” is the theme of Camp Minneboji this summer (June 22-28). God’s people have been remembering the great deeds of God through Psalms, hymns, and songs for centuries. Our Bible studies and other aspects of camp will be built on this theme, as the campers will especially be led by way of the Psalms to remember what God has done for them through Jesus. Camp Minneboji is for those who are currently in grades 4 through 9. The camp, located at Camp Okoboji in northwest Iowa, features Bible study, mission presentations, crafts, music time, sports and recreation. Cost is $225 for 4th-8th graders and $255 for 9th graders. Camp registration booklets will be mailed directly to last year’s campers and in bulk to the congregations by April 1. For more information, check out the camp’s Website: www.minneboji.com, or contact the Camp Dean, Rev. Scott Sailer (scottsailer@aol.com, 605/332-3401).

Large Print Bulletins are available – Let pastor know if you wanted one and they ran out.

Life Quote for Easter: "We can face the end of life with confidence because Jesus Christ has defeated the enemy of death. For the believer in Christ, the Savior of the world, it is death with a difference. The cross promises what no science or medicine can: immortality . . . (2 Timothy 1:10) . . . Through the cross and Christ’s resurrection comes new life, eternal life, life with Christ without end." Rev. Dr. Eugene Boe, Academic Dean, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Lutheran Brethren Seminary. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship for Easter: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11: St. Paul witnessed to the truth that the risen Jesus was the power in his life and therefore he was renewed to be a good steward of the Gospel. We believers in Christ and His resurrection are also moved to be good stewards, not just of our money, time and talents, but also with our sharing of the Gospel of salvation.

Stewardship in Romans 4:1-8; 13-17: Abraham was not saved by his good works but by his faith in the promises of God. That faith enabled him to manage all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes. May God grant that that we become the same kind of faithful and generous stewards.

Life Quote for February 17 "Innocent life taken for political expediency—does this sound familiar? We dally with such devaluation today, in embryonic-stem-cell research, abortion, euthanasia, terrorism—all treated as justifiable to relativists. How unseemly, how grotesque, that the devaluation of human life now runs under the banner of ‘choice.’ The question is not whether but what you choose. Among the choices, the hardest path is the road of the cross, following the example of Jesus. Yet if that stony, stumbling course is the hardest, it is also the best." The Patriot Post. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Those wishing to make donations for new hymnals may do so, please indicate your donation on the offering envelope.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Last Sunday: Feb 3: Attendance: 83, Stewardship: $1663.42

Stewardship Message: Romans 5:12-19: Our Epistle reading tells us that Jesus came in human form to rescue us from sin and death and empower us to live as God’s children. As children of God we love and live and give freely and generously to bring honor to God, support for the work of the church and blessings for people around us.

Life Quote: "We have been redeemed not merely with silver and gold but with the ‘precious blood of Christ’ (1 Peter 1:19). Our worth is not determined on the basis of what we can do, or how we look, or how smart we are. It is based on . . . what God has done for us. God loves us notwithstanding our diseases, handicaps, and sin. Christ never shrank from reaching out to the blind, the lame, or the leper—and neither should we." Center for a Just Society. Stewardship Thought: Ephesians 3:1-12: Who are God’s modern-day wise stewards? They are people who have been changed by God’s grace and joyfully and freely use all they are and have to be people in mission—God’s mission!
Life Quote: "The magi knew Jesus was more than a baby—they recognized His star, they traveled hundreds of miles, they presented kingly gifts, but most telling of all, they worshiped Him. The magi recognized Jesus as God. Because Jesus was more than a baby, His life, death, and resurrection have eternal significance. His life, death, and resurrection also have temporal significance. The price He paid to redeem all people gives value to all people. That means every baby is more than a baby . . . Every unborn baby is more than a baby! He or she is a person for whom Jesus lived, died, and rose again." Rev. Dr. James I .Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life. Stewardship: Romans 1:1-7: “Ready-Set-Come!” Who are God’s watchful and wise stewards? They are the people of God who by God’s grace live in obedience to God’s will to demonstrate their faith and love through Christian acts of loving and giving.

Lutherans for Life Quote: “The womb was a necessary place for God to be. Our beginning there was sinful (Psalm 51:5). God came to seek and to save us by taking our place from the very beginning. When God came to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, He was showing how He valued them in spite of their sin. God entering a womb shows how He values all human life from that moment. His beginning there hallows our beginning there. Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, Executive Director, Lutherans For Life A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Life Quote: “I believe we must use all of our abilities to be a voice for those who have none. I believe that each life has hope, meaning, and purpose. Each life is designed by God. Scripture reminds us of God’s love, ‘For I have redeemed you’ (Isaiah 43:1); ‘I have called you by name’ (Isaiah 43:1 ESV); ‘You were bought with a price’ (1 Corinthians 6:20 ESV). These words are true not just for those who were formed ‘normal’ on the outside but are words for all of God’s creation.” Roberta Bandy, preschool teacher, mother, and author. Life Quote: “Adoption can be a beautiful solution for a child who needs a stable, loving home; for birthparents who want the best for their child which they are not able to provide; and for adopting parents who are ready in every way to parent but are unable to give birth to a child. It is true that God can take what seems like the worst of all circumstances and turn them into the best. A healthy adoption is a shining example of this miracle!” Janette Clausen, LBSW, Director of Pregnancy Counseling and Adoptions, Lutheran Family Service of Iowa. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

Stewardship in Colossians 1:13-20: The Epistle reading for the last Sunday in the church year reminds us that God in Christ rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into His kingdom of light so we might use all of life and life’s resources in service to Him and our neighbor.
