Minutes – St. John’s Church Council Meeting 7/1/2006
Present: Pastor Watt, Jim Rentschler, Jim Litterick, Kathy Callies, Lois Kuhle, Earl Voeltz, Julie Schwader, Walter Rentschler, Henry Rentschler, Jr. and Helen Sprecher.
Pastor began with devotions.
Lois Kuhle provided treasurer’s report for quarterly voters meeting. Gifts are consistently falling behind expenses. Mission obligations have not been paid.
Jim Litterick reported for the elders. A request for release for Ladonna Mette Beck has been received. Pastor will be on vacation on Sunday, August 20; elders will likely have to cover the service. The instructional service has been moved to July 30. A greeters listing has been prepared and will be included in the next newsletter.
Henry Rentschler reported for the trustees:
Printer/copier options were reviewed. Their suggestion is a laser printer for approximately $449 (including rebate). Another low-volume copier is required to support education programs, etc.
Shingling for the west side of the parsonage is estimated at $1200 for materials.
Tuck pointing needs sealing as well as some work on the bell tower, etc. Estimates are $7582 to $6265 if we do some of the work.
Sidewalk project has been set aside due to current lack of funds.
Education committee – Julie had no report.
Cemetery committee – Earl had no report.
Financial secretary – Helen reported that her numbers matched Lois’. She asked about a concern about a request to recognize every memorial gift made at a recent funeral. It was general consensus that family recognition of such gifts is adequate.
Jim Rentschler reported that he will be appointing Rich Schmit, Curt Hueners and Cody Hoyer to the nominating committee.
Discussion regarding Evangelism and Stewardship Committees resulted in recommendation of Tom Hueners and Joyce Everhart to be contacted for Evangelism Committee with the idea of a mission fair to be developed; Marilyn Eggert, Charlene Schmit and Thelma Hueners will be contacted for Stewardship Committee with the initial focus of celebration of St. John’s 125th anniversary in 2007. Additional contacts identified included Staci Eggert, Thelma Haak, Darcy Albert, Mae Brummett.
Jim reported that the Miner County Service Committee has met and will meet again on August 10. They are very open to suggestions.
Next meeting was set for October 11 at 7:30 with the quarterly voters meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m.
